Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer pre-application support?

Regrettably, due to our limited resources as a small team, we are unable to offer guidance before your application.

What are my chances of success?

Submitting an application does not ensure that a grant will be awarded, as we receive numerous applications and have limited funds to support them.

Do you give feedback on unsuccessful applications?

We are unable to provide feedback other than advising if you did not meet our application criteria. Please note that an unsuccessful application does not necessarily indicate a flaw in your application; it may simply be due to budgetary constraints.

If your application is unsuccessful, we kindly request that you wait at least 12 months before reapplying.

Do you offer grants for more than one year?

For successful applicants who have previously received a grant, our Trustees typically do not encourage reliance on Beckenham Theatre Trust by offering continuation funding beyond the original term. However, there may be exceptional circumstances where we would consider a request for further funding. Any such request would be evaluated based on its merits. It’s important to note that even if continued support is granted, it is unlikely to be at the same level or duration as previous funding. Additionally, we do not award more than one grant to any organisation within a 12-month period.

When will I find out if my application is successful?

For your planning purposes, please note that the application and assessment process typically takes approximately 4 weeks. Application deadlines are advertised on our website, and Board of Trustees meetings generally occur around 1 months later, usually in September and March.

If I am refused a grant, can I appeal?

Unfortunately not, if you met all of the application criteria, then we may not be able to fund your project due to budget constraints.

What do you fund?

The Trust welcomes proposals from any organisations that support their funding priorities. It is particularly keen to support smaller causes for which the sum awarded will make a large impact making a positive impact on a group or community through the use of the Arts, Theatre, Music, Dance and Design. It welcomes approaches from organisations/groups for projects with longevity and legacy but it also welcomes applications for one off projects which make a significant and beneficial impact on the lives of those who take part.

What do you not fund?

Grant requests which the Trustees will not support are:

  • Projects with the primary purpose of health, therapy or social welfare
  • Capital campaigns (construction of and fitting out of buildings)
  • Sponsorship of fundraising events
  • Contributions to general appeals
  • Religious activity which is not for wider public benefit
  • Public bodies to carry out their statutory obligations
  • Schools
